Merle Losson Gulick

Merle Losson Gulick, of Parker, Texas, a proud and dedicated patriot, loving husband, and skilled engineer, passed away on November 20, 2023, at the age of 84. He was born on April 14, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, to William Richard and Arthamese (Lafon) Gulick.

Merle's journey began in Carthage, Missouri, where he graduated from Carthage High School in 1957. Demonstrating his commitment to service and love for his country, he joined the United States Air Force on July 30, 1957. Merle's illustrious military career spanned over two decades, and he retired on July 1, 1979, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant E-8. Throughout his service, Merle earned numerous accolades, including the Air Force Good Conduct Metal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Airforce Outstanding Unit Award with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Award with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Intelligent Service Award with one Bronze Oakleaf Cluster.

On January 30, 1978, Merle married the love of his life, Wanda "Von" Stubbs, in Azle, Texas. After his distinguished military career, Merle continued to contribute his talents, working as an AIV Engineer for Nortel. He found joy in working on Model A automobiles and was an active member of the Model A Ford Club of America, Fort Worth Model A Club, and Dallas Model A Club.

Merle Losson Gulick will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his love for his family, and his passion for engineering and Model A’s. He leaves behind a legacy of service, commitment, and a life well-lived. Merle will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Merle is survived by his children, Caryn Weaver and husband, Steve of Sachse, Texas, Jeana Braley of Murphy, Texas, and Craig Caldwell and wife, Karen of Lucas, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie Sullivan and husband, Jimmy, Lindsay Stone  and husband, Brennan, Christopher Weaver, Michael Caldwell, and Eric Caldwell; great grandchildren, Jordyn, Morgan, Mason, Madison, and Finn; sister, Della Louise Barret of Tulsa, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda “Von” Gulick; children, Bruce Daniel Gulick and Vicky Lynn Gulick; sister, Neola Vianise Knowles.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
