Merced "Mercy" Garza Almendarez

The man that most people knew simply as “Mercy” passed away on April 28, 2023, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in McKinney, Texas at the age of 73. After recently being diagnosed with stage 4 head and neck cancer. Mercy passed away peacefully with his beloved family at his bedside. He was born to Trinidad Almendarez and Aurelia (Garza) Almendarez on September 24, 1949, in McKinney, Texas.

Mercy is survived by his son, Nick Almendarez of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter, Stacy Reyes of Garland, Texas; daughter Nina Valdez-Almendarez and husband Lupe Valdez of Rowlett, Texas; son, Isaac Almendarez of Garland, Texas; daughter, Amanda Almendarez and husband Jaime Gaytan of Wolfe City, Texas; mother of his children, Maria Vandergriff of Leonard, Texas; brother, Ted Almendarez; brother, Pete Almendarez; brother, Fidel Almendarez; sister, Virginia Macias; sister, Rita Ramos; fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. And many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mercy was a proud Marine Vietnam veteran to the core. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him as friends and family will attest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Trinidad and Aurelia Almendarez.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The family will be hosting a memorial luncheon following funeral services. Details will be released during the viewing on Tuesday.

The family will receive guests during a visitation on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.

Military Honors will be rendered at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, May 18, 2023, at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211.
