Melba Lee Solomon Shelton was born in Terrell, TX on August 15, 1929 to the late Auda Ed Solomon and Ruby Arbuckle Solomon. She went to be with our Lord on February 26, 2022 in Farmersville, TX. She was the oldest of 6 children.
Melba married Patrick H. Shelton on January 19, 1948 in Tarrant County, TX. They had four children.
After Melba’s youngest child started school, she began working in healthcare at Park Haven Nursing Home in Greenville, then Collin Memorial Hospital-McKinney, and finally Hunt Regional Healthcare (Presbyterian)-Greenville. She had a strong work ethic and loved her work friends so much it was difficult to retire at the age of 75.
Melba became a Christian at an early age, was of Baptist denomination, and she lived her life as a great example of Jesus’ love and mercy.
Melba cherished her large family, and her favorite times were singing in country music jam sessions with her brothers & sisters, hosting holidays in a packed house, playing Phase 10 games, and traveling.
Melba was predeceased by her parents, husband, son-Audie Shelton, brothers-Grady Solomon and A. J. Solomon, sisters-Doris Rakowski and Juanita Solomon. She is survived by her sister Shirley Thaggard of Burkburnett, TX, children-Charles Shelton (Patsy) of Merit TX, Glenda Taylor (Tony) of Copeville TX, and Cathy Douglas (Robert) of Farmersville TX, 9 grandchildren-Sara Hoelscher, Rhonda Brunswick, Charles (Bubba) Shelton, Destiny Shelton, Ian Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Ashley Elliott, Kelli Simmons and James Pierce. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
Although we grieve, we also rejoice in knowing she’s happy in heaven. Revelation 21:4.
The family extends gratitude to the CNA’s, nurses and staff at Lexington Medical Lodge and New Century Hospice for the loving care given to our mom.
