Melba Jean Myrick Stroup of Blue Ridge passed away May 7, 2017 in Farmersville, Texas at the Lexington Medical Lodge at the age of 91. Jean was a life-long member of the Verona Methodist Church in Verona, Texas. She was born June 28, 1925 in Blue Ridge, Texas to Pink Aubrey Myrick and Annie Lee McGuffey Myrick. Graduated from Blue Ridge High School in 1941 and went on to attend Dallas Business College. She married Edwin Albert Stroup in Seattle, Washington. Jean worked for North American in Dallas, and in 1955 she joined the Collins Radio Team. Retired from now Rockwell International after 30 years of service as an Industrial Engineering Assistant, writing procedures for special projects for FD-109 Flight Director Systems and WP-103 Radar Equipment. After retirement, she enjoyed Cattle Ranching with her husband. Jean was an avid Texas Ranger fan and thrilled her to have sponsored the EJ Rangers Co-Ed Softball Team for years.
Melba Jean is survived by two children, Carolyn Clements Pierce of Blue Ridge and Chris Stroup and wife Shirley of Princeton, Texas. Grandchildren are Terri Clements of Blue Ridge, Julie Webster and husband George of Plano, Texas, and Dana Sartain of Fort Worth, Texas, David Stroup and wife Christy of Friendswood, Texas, and Christie Kay Stroup-Shaw of Richardson, Texas, Stacey Rhodes and husband Jeff of Arizona, Shawna Purser and husband Tony of Princeton, Texas, Shelley Alexander and husband Nate of Princeton, Texas, Sandy Hensley and husband Perry, of Princeton, Texas, 17 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren, also, survived by sisters, Thresa Braswell of Blue Ridge, Texas, Viva and husband Charlie Pruett of North Richland Hills, Pauline Todd of Blue Ridge, Texas, and brother Aubrey “Sonny” Myrick and wife Jodie of Carrollton, Texas. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews that were close to her heart, and sister-in-law Christine Stroup of Blue Ridge, Texas.
Pallbearers are George Webster, David Stroup, Damon McCullough, Eric Sartain, Oren Sartain, Connor Craig, Cole Shelton, and Stuart Sartain.
Services will be Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Blue Ridge Methodist Church in Blue Ridge at 11:00 am. Services will be officiated by her pastor, Dana Kent.
Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6:00-8:00 pm at Hurst Fielder Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville. Burial will be in the Verona Stroup Cemetery following the service.
