Maxie Wayne Mills, a resident of Anna, Texas, peacefully departed this world on March 6, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born on July 16, 1936, to Charles Edward Mills and Annie Mae (Knowles) Mills in Fulbright, Texas, Maxie's journey was marked by love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Growing up in Bagwell, Texas, Maxie attended local schools, laying the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and integrity. On January 1, 1956, he embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship, marrying the love of his life, Dorthea Evelyn Landers, in McKinney. Together, they shared over six decades of unwavering devotion and companionship.
Maxie's professional life was defined by his skilled craftsmanship and dedication. He served as an automotive mechanic for 18 years at Steakley Chevrolet, showcasing his expertise and commitment to excellence. Subsequently, he spent 20 years at Mrs. Baird Bread, where his dedication and work ethic left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Maxie found comfort and joy in gardening. His green thumb and love for nurturing life reflected his gentle and caring nature. Yet, above all else, Maxie cherished moments spent with his beloved family. Whether tending to his garden or sharing stories around the dinner table, his family was the center of his universe. A dedicated member of Tabernacle of Praise Church in McKinney, Maxie's faith was an anchor in his life.
Maxie will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will remain in their hearts.
Maxie is survived by his beloved wife, Dorthea Mills of Anna, Texas; children, Judy Edwards of Anna, Texas, Evelyn Sparks and husband, Wayne of Sherman, Texas, and Tommy Mills and wife, Tammy of Anna, Texas; adopted son, A.J. Mills, also of Anna, Texas; six grandchildren, Darryl Dean and wife, Shannon, Stephanie Dean, Jennifer Strong and husband, David, Jason Sparks, Amber Edwards, and Tasha Mills; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Christian, Mykenzie and husband, Matt, Andy, Mason, Lily, Cheyenne, Brandon, Brooklyn, Lyric, Skylar and husband, Irvin, and Declan; sister, Sue Miller; brother, Elder Mills and wife, Jo; and a host of other loving family members and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Annie; grandson, David Edwards; great-grandson, Grayson Dean; brothers, Jessie Mills, Edwyne Mills, Charley Mills, and Wilburn Mills; and sisters, Nettie Hall, Norma Williams, and Frances Berryhill.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Family is invited for private viewing at 1:00 p.m. The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/maxie-wayne-mills. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday, March 8, 2024 to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
