With faith in God’s promise of eternal life, the family of Matthew Cory Houston of Plano, Texas, shares that he passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on August 29, 2025, at the age of 36.
Matthew was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Anna Houston of Overland Park, Kansas; his sister, Michelle (Shawn) Dedrick of Shawnee, Kansas; and his grandmother, Mallene Houston of Acworth, Georgia. He is also remembered with love by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were blessed by his kindness, especially his beloved neighbors, Ron, Brenda & RJ Bean. Matthew also shared a very close bond with a tight-knit group of high school friends who remained by his side throughout his life. Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Lt. Col. Michael Houston, and grandparents Max Houston and Jack and Mary Thesing.
Born March 16, 1989, Matthew grew up in Dallas, Texas, joining his sister Michelle at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic School, Bishop Lynch High School and Oklahoma State University. From an early age, his life reflected a generous spirit, a joyful heart, and a deep love for others. He also shared a lifelong unbreakable bond with his sister, Michelle, a gift she will forever treasure.
Matthew’s kindness and love for people shone throughout his life. He welcomed everyone with a hug, offered encouragement to those in need, and delighted in gatherings with family and friends. Matthew’s joy was contagious, especially at celebrations, where he was never far from the dance floor. He made friends everywhere he went, with his warm, welcoming spirit drawing others to him.
Matthew was also an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and Dallas Mavericks. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he celebrated his favorite teams with the same loyalty and spirit he showed in all areas of life.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2025 at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church 1201 Alma Dr, Plano, Texas 75075.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013 with Rosary to begin at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Matthew’s memory to Colin Bodensteiner Memorial Scholarship.
