Mason Dale Thornton of Plano, Texas passed away March 13, 2016, at the age of 21. He was born June 2, 1994, to Ernest Glenn Thornton and Kelly (Wood) Thornton in Plano, Texas. Mason was of the Christian faith.
Mason grew up in Caddo Mills, Texas where he enjoyed his youth hunting, four wheeling, swimming, and playing with friends. He was diagnosed with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy at eighteen months, but didn’t let it squash his spirit for life and adventure. Wheelchair bound by 5th grade, he still did his best and stayed involved. He moved to Plano, Texas his senior year where he graduated Plano Senior High School. During his time in Plano, he found his purpose for life and matured into an amazing young man. He loved to free style rap and was known as “Lazy Legs.” His videos received over one million views at one point on YouTube and the Vine. He loved to play Xbox, which gave him the freedom to talk and make friends, far and wide. He was an amazing young man and touched and encouraged many lives. We, his family, just now understand the depth of his impact as we receive well wishes and condolences literally from all over the world. We will miss his wit, his smile and his “I love you.”
He is survived by his mother, Kelly Thornton of Plano, Texas; father, Glenn Thornton of Caddo Mills, Texas; sister, Kaylee Thornton of Plano, Texas; grandparents, Abner and Mary Wood of Plano, Texas; grandmother, Kay Dean Thornton, of Lufkin, Texas; aunts, Karen Farley and husband, Tom of Plano, Texas, Kim Varner also of Plano, Texas, and Becky Welch and husband Wayne of Lufkin, Texas; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Mason was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jimmy Thornton, aunt, Kathy Wood, and uncle, Bobby Varner.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2016, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment is to immediately follow the service at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
