Mary Evelyn Winders

Mary Evelyn (Tinsley) Winders passed away June 4, 2021 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 81. She was born May 4, 1940 to Harold Hester and Hilda Mae (Buchanan) Tinsley in McKinney, Texas. Mary grew up in McKinney and graduated from McKinney Boyd High School in 1958.  She married Robert Warren Winders on June 2, 1956 in McKinney. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McKinney where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Canafax Sunday School class. Mary enjoyed participating in the annual women’s luncheon at the church. She established lifelong friendships with the McKinney Supper Club and especially enjoyed their annual trips to Ruidoso, New Mexico. Mary’s other interests included involvement with the PTA and volunteering at a local nursing home. She enjoyed traveling, her trips to the casino and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan Winders Nestor and husband, Rodger of Houston, Texas; daughter, Ann Winders Matthews of McKinney, Texas; son, Jim Winders and wife, Lori of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Chad Matthews and wife, Kat, Katherine Matthews Fahlgren and husband, Paul, Kim Nestor Swift, Chris Nestor, Brad Winders and wife, Liz, Peter Maggio and wife, Amanda, Elisa Maggio and Warren Appel, and Mark Maggio; great-grandchildren, Hayden Matthews, Ember Swift and Briar Swift; 3 brothers, Eddie Tinsley and wife, Sara, Larry Tinsley and Jimmy Tinsley; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Warren Winders; parents, Harold and Hilda Tinsley; brother, Harold “Bubba” Tinsley; and sister, Ruth Ann Durrett.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 11, 2021 at First United Methodist Church McKinney, 315 North Church Street in McKinney, where attendees are asked to adhere to Covid protocol with masks and social distancing. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.
