Mary "June" Mayes

Mary "June" (Morrison) Mayes of Bonham, Texas passed away on May 25, 2020 , one week short of her 86th birthday.  She was born on June 1, 1934 to Hugh Morrison and Mary (Monroe) Morrison in Ayr, Scotland. June lost her mother very young and so after finishing High School, June worked in a carpet mill, as her first job, to help support her family.    June then met and married Bobby Jim Mayes, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Prestwick AB Scotland. They were wed in Ayr on June 1, 1957. She moved back and forth between the United States and the United Kingdom numerous times during Bobby's twenty one plus years in the service.  June became an American citizen and with Bobby, ran a number of successful food establishments in Alabama, until retiring in the 90's.  She loved gardening and was an avid reader. June was Presbyterian, where she was very active in her church as an elder and taught Sunday School.  In their later years June (with Bobby) moved to McKinney, Texas to be with most of her children and their two grandchildren Kaelynn and Devon.  

June is survived by her children, Galvin E. Mayes and wife, Elizabeth Gray of Plano, Texas, Katie Branham and husband, Scott of Wylie, Texas and Russell Mayes and wife, Susan of Woodbridge, Virginia; grandchildren, Kaelynn M. Mayes and Devon R. Mayes; and a host of other loving family and friends both in the Untied States and in Scotland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Jim Mayes; parents, Hugh and Mary Morrison; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211
