Mary Joan Meador

Mary Joan Black Meador (Joan) passed away on September 5, 2019 at the age of 88 in Allen, Texas. She was born on November 11, 1930 to James Leonidas Black and Ruth Ellen (Stanley) Black in Petersburg, Texas.

In May 1950, Joan married Leroy Alton Meador in Levelland, Texas.  She and Alton lived most of their lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, enjoying a loving relationship and lives of service for 55 years until Alton’s death in January 2005.  Together, with many faithful friends, they helped start the San Pedro Church of Christ, which later founded the Montgomery Blvd Church of Christ and, later, the Northeast Albuquerque Church of Christ.  Joan was an elementary school teacher for 22 years, mostly teaching 2nd grade.

She is survived by her sons, Lee Meador of Arlington, Texas, Craig Meador and wife, Pam of Little Elm, Texas and Alan Meador and wife, Angel of Garland, Texas; daughter, Jan Meador Lemmons of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Lemmons, Kara Barcroft, Eric Lemmons, Alyssa Isam, Meredith Meador, Aaron Meador, Marnie Fangio, Kayla Lemmons and Kathryn Andersen; twenty great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Black; husband, Leroy Alton Meador; brother, James Stanley Black; and granddaughter, Marie Meador.
