Mary Ellen Pryor

Mary Pryor, 96, of Farmersville, Texas, died May 4, 2020, at the Baylor, Scott & White Hospital in McKinney, Texas. She was born March 5, 1924 in Novelty, Missouri to Faye and Ira Davis.

After graduating High School, she traveled to Chicago, Illinois seeking work. During WWII, she worked at a defense plant then traveled to Texas for a job opportunity. She met and later married Ralph Pryor, of Merit, Texas, in Weatherford, Texas. They married July 17, 1943.

Mary and Ralph Pryor were also business partners. They owned and operated two dry cleaning businesses, a grocery store, a coin automated laundromat, as well as a men’s clothing store before establishing Pryor’s Charcoal Grill in Farmersville, TX, which they ran and worked for over 20 years.

Mary Pryor was very involved in her church and community as she and her husband raised 5 children, Kay Forder, Connie Cooper, Johnnie Pryor, Jack Pryor, and Jill Hammond, all of Farmersville, TX.

Mary Pryor is survived by 2 sons, 1 daughter, 2 daughter in-laws, Janet Pryor and Pat Pryor, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband, 2 daughters, her parents, 3 brothers, and many friends and relatives.
