Mary Lou Kahn

Mary Lou Kahn, 89, of Allen passed away peacefully on February 17, 2016, with her daughter by her side. 

Mary Lou was born February 16, 1927, in Helena, Arkansas to Charlie and Myrtle Neth.  She was a lifelong resident of Helena until 2013 when she moved to Texas to be closer to her family.

Mary Lou graduated from Siena College in Memphis and earned her Master’s degree in Education from the University of Mississippi. She taught for 30 years in the Helena-West Helena public school system. She was a member of Temple Beth El, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Wednesday Bridge Club and a volunteer at Helena Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn, son-in-law, Bob, and grandson, Connor of Allen, Texas; sister Helena Wilson of Nashville; nieces Kenny McKay of Pensacola and Vicki Stacey of Nashville; nephews Randy Blum of St. Paul and Chuck Solis of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Mosler (Bud) Kahn, Jr.      

Mary Lou was cremated and will be returned to Helena at a later date.  No memorial service is planned at this time. The family wishes to thank Envoy Hospice for their care and compassion.

In honor of her dedication and devotion to children and education, a scholarship to Phillips Community College Foundation has been established in her and her husband’s name.  Memorials may be sent to the foundation at P.O. Box 785, Helena, AR 72342-0785 ATTN: Rhonda St. Columbia.
