Mary Katherine "Kathy" Tamburin, age 81, of Sherman, Texas, passed away January 2, 2019, at Medical City, Plano, Texas. She was born to Edith Dora (Griffin) and Hermon Leslie Stroud on February 12, 1937, in Gunter, Texas. Kathy married Joseph Anthony Tamburin in Sherman, Texas, August 1956. She worked for 14 years as a sterile processor for Medical Plaza Hospital in Sherman.
Kathy adored her grandchildren. She attended all of their sporting and school events without fail.
Kathy is survived by her children, Terry DeMent and husband, Mike of Pottsboro, Texas, and Mark Tamburin and wife, Kari of Gunter, Texas; grandchildren, Meredith Nilsson and husband, Aaron of Dangerfield, Texas, Mikey DeMent of Pottsboro, Texas, Joey Tamburin of Aubrey, Texas, and Bear Tamburin of Pilot Point, Texas, and Daniel and David Whitley of Bells, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Kade and Kylee Strickland and Kelvey Nilsson of Daingerfield, Texas, and Grace, Rachael and Tate Tamburin of Aubrey, Texas. Nieces, Anna Anderson and husband, Don of Bells, Texas, and Cindy Freeland and husband, Tom of Bangs, Texas; nephew, Butch Thornhill of Princeton, Texas; and brother-in-law, Leon Thornhill of Howe, Texas.
Kathy was preceded in death by her son, Mike Tamburin; sister, Joan Thornhill; and her parents, Herman and Edith Stroud.
A memorial service to celebrate Kathy’s life will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 300 W Pecan Street, Gunter, Texas 75058 on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Scott Jordan officiating.
