Mary Judith Kviatkofsky Gilday

Mary was born July 16, 1937 in Racine, Wisconsin to Frank (Kviatkofsky) Smith and Mary McDonald Orthey and passed away May 23, 2008 in Plano, Texas from lung disease. Mary graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in Racine in 1955. Mary entered Madison General Hospital School of Nursing in Madison, Wisconsin in 1955 and she graduated from the school's three-year Diploma Program in 1958. Her nurse training duties included affiliations at Mendota State Psychiatric Hospital in Madison, at the VA Hospital in Madison, and at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. On January 31, 1959, she married Patrick J. Gilday in Racine. After spending six years living in Columbus, Ohio, Mary and Patrick moved to Texas in 1966. Mary retired as a surgical nurse at the Medical Center of Plano in 1997, after also having worked at Baylor Medical Center. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter Kathryn Gilday Shiels. Mary is survived by her daughter Jennifer Houghtlin and husband Rob of Frisco, Texas, as well as her two grandsons Andrew and Mitchell Houghtlin. She is also survived by her daughter Elizabeth Gilday of Dallas, Texas; sister Kathy Luoma of Ironwood, Michigan; brothers James Kviatkofsky and wife Judith of Allen, Texas, Robert Orthey and wife Sue of Voorhees, New Jersey, Tom Orthey and wife Terri of Gurnee, Illinois and Jerry Orthey and wife Gina of Deltona, Florida; niece, Victoria Howard and husband Tony of Allen, Texas; brother-in-law, Raymond Gilday and wife Claire of Westfield, New Jersey; dear friends Georgia Blowe and Cassandra Reeves of Plano, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite charity in Mary’s honor. A remembrance gathering in Mary’s honor will be held at the Houghtlins’ residence on Saturday, June 7th from 2 to 4 p.m.
