Mary Ellen Parks, of McKinney, Texas, peacefully passed away on November 24, 2023, at the age of 90. Born on April 15, 1933, in Shell Creek, Tennessee, to John Marion and Flossie May (Whittington) Oaks, Mary Ellen leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories.
Mary Ellen graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1951, marking the beginning of a life filled with adventure, commitment, and joy. In July of 1977, she exchanged vows with Michael Gregory Parks in Dallas, Texas, embarking on a journey of partnership and devotion that would span several decades.
Known for her warm heart and vibrant spirit, Mary Ellen embraced life with a passion for travel and the joy of solving puzzles. Her love for her husband and family was evident in every moment spent together. Mary Ellen and her husband worked side by side in the insurance business, building a life centered around shared goals and dreams. Additionally, she brought her expertise and warmth to the real estate world, becoming a licensed real estate agent for several years.
Mary Ellen is survived by her loving children, Dorothy Ann Torres of Coppell, Texas, James Matthew Evans of Lake Texoma, and Ellen Evans of Aubrey, Texas. Her memory will live on through her grandchildren, Timothy Thomas, Jessica Torres, Michele Housden, Tom Evans, and Laura Evans, as well as her eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Johnnie Pinkard of Boones Creek, Tennessee.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Michael G. Parks; brothers, Tom Oaks and Casey Oaks; and sisters, Cora Hicks, Burnette Hathaway, Nancy Cash, Betty Jean Harrell, and Sally Shafer.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. A visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
