Mary Ellen Bohannon, age 97, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 10, 2025, at the Oxford Grand, McKinney, Texas. Mary Ellen was the daughter of the late Samuel and Ellen (Warren) Bernstein. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, graduated from Scott High School, and attended the University of Toledo.
Mary Ellen was married to Howard Bohannon, and subsequently moved to Maumee, Ohio. Her husband, Howard, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Douglas (wife, Andrea) of Clermont, Florida, and Timothy (wife, Kim) from McKinney, Texas, her dear grandchildren, Erin Bohannnon, Brooke (husband, Efren) Loza, Sarah (husband, Thomas) Brunner, and Emily Bohannon, as well as her six great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, one step great grandchild, and her sister, Joann Wittenburg.
Mary Ellen worked for the City of Maumee for several years, from where she retired. She loved to travel, visit her family in Texas, as well as her sister in San Jose, California. She also enjoyed spending time with her special sister-in-law, Marilyn (Bohannon) Knake. She enjoyed her art classes at the Maumee Senior Center (she was quite talented) and spending time with friends.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association, Maumee Methodist Church and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
As per her request, services and burial will be private.
