Mary Elizabeth Glaser, known to many as Mollie, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2021, in Frisco, Texas, at the age of 83. She was born in Massillon, Ohio, on January 10, 1938, to Helen and Norman Malone.
Mollie attended Fairfield High School in Columbiana, Ohio, where she was a cheerleader. After graduation, she enrolled at the Ohio State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.
She and her husband moved to Texas in 1965, first living in Houston, then settling down in Edinburg, in the Rio Grande Valley.
In 1967, she gave birth to her only child, Gail, whom she adored. Gail was born near the coast of Texas during hurricane season and was a crier, so Mollie affectionately nick-named her Gusty Gail.
Mollie taught home ec classes at Edinburg High School for 22 years. Some of her favorite classes were the ones where she taught football players how to cook and sew. She took pride in sponsoring the Future Homemakers of America club and enjoyed attending contests with her students. Mollie also was involved in the American Field Service club for many years at the high school. She and her family hosted an exchange student from Germany in 1983-84.
In her spare time, Mollie loved to cook, garden, and quilt. Mollie was a planner, and it was common for her to make detailed, handwritten notes for all her many, many ideas.
Mollie also took delight in getting to know new people and cared for them. Once introduced, she was not shy about asking someone about their background and life story and considered them a friend. She felt especially connected to many new friends in her later years, including her doctors and special caregivers. She would always think about their needs and desires before her own.
She is preceded in death by her mother Helen Yeager and stepfather Ralph Yeager of Columbiana, Ohio. She is survived by her only child, daughter Gail Balbinot and husband Brian Balbinot of Frisco, Texas; sister Nina L. Murnane and husband Michael Murnane of Pataskala, Ohio. She leaves behind two grandchildren whom she was very proud of: Brooke and Fritz Balbinot, and two nephews Ryan and Daniel Murnane.
