Mary Kathryn Smith Edwards

Mary Kathryn Smith Edwards, 61, of Melissa, Texas, passed away on May 8, 2009, in Plano, Texas. Mary was born in Ogden, Utah on May 9, 1947 to Ariel Davis Smith and Emma Abigail Harrison Smith. She was the youngest of 3 children. She grew up in nearby Roy, Utah and was graduated from Weber High School in 1965. She went on to attend and graduate from Dixie College in St. George, Utah. She married David Michael Edwards on August 30, 1968, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. Although she worked as a secretary for many years, she was a mother and homemaker first. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served willingly in a variety of areas. She was a pianist/organist, Primary teacher and leader, Young Women’s leader, seminary teacher, Relief Society leader and teacher, and a family history worker. She enjoyed sewing, handicrafts, genealogy, social gatherings, shopping, and playing/teaching piano. She loved making things for others and meeting new people. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed being with people. She has now gone home to her Heavenly Father and to her beloved husband, David, who preceded her in death last year. She will be missed greatly by her six children, their spouses, her 12 grandchildren, her brother and sister and their families, as well as her many friends in Utah; St. Joseph, Missouri; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Texas, among other places. She is survived by her sister, Carol Broadbent (Joseph) of Evanston, Wyoming; brother, Steven Smith (Kathie) of West Valley City, Utah; children, James Edwards (Cinda) of Platte City, Missouri; Wade Edwards (Megumi) of Edgewater, New Jersey; Carla Shields (Gregory) of McKinney, Texas; Glenn Edwards (Natalie) of Huntington Station, Long Island, New York; Jason Edwards (Mindy) of Tremonton, Utah; and Barbara Smith (Benjamin) of West Jordan, Utah; grandchildren, Ashley and Jackson Edwards, Emma, Lindsay, and Nicholas Shields, Angela and Abigail Edwards, Jarom, Michael, and Samuel Edwards, and two babies on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ariel and Emma Smith, and her husband, David. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1020 N. Lake Forest Drive, McKinney, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Monday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, May 16, 2009, Ogden City Cemetery, Ogden, Utah, with a visitation from 10:00-11:30 a.m., prior to the service at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah 84404.
