Mary (Cangelosi) DeCaprio, a resident of Lucas, Texas, passed away on September 14, 2026 at the age of 91. She was born on November 17, 1934, to her loving parents, Salvatore Cangelosi and Victoria (Esposito) Cangelosi in Brooklyn, New York. Mary grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from St John’s University in Queens, New York in 1956. Mary married the love of her life, Albert DeCaprio, on July 5, 1958. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Christine and Janice, who brought great joy and meaning to Mary's life. She treasured her role as a mother and took great pride in watching her daughters grow and build families of their own.
Mary was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic faith and attended St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen, Texas. Her faith was an important part of her life and brought her comfort and strength throughout the years.
Mary was a talented schoolteacher and taught elementary school through junior high school, going on to earn her Master of Special Education from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.
She loved to travel with Albert and looked forward to their various vacations and cruises , often taken with friends, through the years. Their travels included several trips to Europe, the Caribbean and the American West.
Mary and Albert moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina when Al retired and spent their summers in the Hamptons. When Al passed away in 2000 Mary remained in North Carolina and eventually moved to Fairview, Texas when daughter, Christine and son-in-law, Walter were transferred for work. She made many friends along the way and remained in Texas until her death.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Christine Auger and husband, Walter, of Lucas, Texas, and Janice Holderman and husband, James of White Plains, New York; grandchildren, Justine Warren and husband, John, of Bozeman, Montana, Alexa Auger of New York, New York, and Matthew Holderman of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Ann Slocum and husband, John of Eastchester, New York; and a host of extended family members and friends, who will miss her and cherish her memory.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Salvatore and Victoria Cangelosi; beloved husband, Albert DeCaprio; and brothers, Andrew Cangelosi, Victor Cangelosi, and Joseph Cangelosi.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 North Greenville Avenue, Allen, Texas 75002.
The family will receive guests during a visitation from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
