Mary Adeline Massey

Mary Adeline Pool Massey, 98 years old, departed for Heaven on May 16, 2016. She was born in Desdemona, Texas on April 3, 1918. Mary grew up in Primera and graduated from Wilson Track High School in 1934. She attended Mary-Hardin-Baylor College on an academic scholarship and later graduated from Pan American College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. At Pan American College she was on the Dean’s Honor Roll every semester. Mary was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority Alumni. She taught in the Harlingen and Port Isabel ISDs for 37 years and was awarded outstanding Teacher of America three times. Mary’s hobbies included oil and china painting. She was an avid fisherman. She fished in the TIFT, Port Mansfield and Tarpon Rodeo for over 30 years and won many trophies.  

Mary is survived by her daughter, Carol Hailey (James); son, G.W. (Billy) Massey, Jr. (Dana); five grandchildren, Beau Hailey, Grady W. Massey, III (Jo), Dane-Ann Massey, Kyle Taubert (Kerrie) and Connally Allen (Chris); eight great-grandchildren, David Hailey, II, Sarah Padilla (Kyle), Jessica Logen Hailey, Julia Larkin Hailey, Braden Massey and DaLana Massey, DeLilah Massey, Kolton Taubert and Kendall Taubert; brother, Charles Pool; nephew, Jo Hauschild; three nieces, Pam Pool Kliser, Elaine Piersall Richardson and Louise Piersall Moreno.  

Mary is preceded to Heaven by her husband of 46 years, Grady W. (Bill) Massey; grandson, David Massey Hailey; granddaughter, Dr. Joy Lynn Hailey Reed; five siblings and parents. 

An inurnment will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park of San Benito, Texas on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Steve Weist officiating.
