Martha Wattley of McKinney, Texas passed away on March 9, 2020 at the age of 93. She was born on June 17, 1926 to Charlie and Ella Mae (Brooks) Crockett in Melissa, Texas. Martha attended grade school in Melissa, Texas and graduated from Doty High School. She married Willie James Wattley, Sr. on May 18, 1943 in Gainesville, Texas. They were married for 73 years until his death in 2016. To this union were two sons, Willie James Wattley, Jr. and Charles Samuel Wattley. Martha accepted Christ early in life at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Melissa, Texas. She was an active member of St. Mark Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas for over 60 years. While never seeking the spotlight, she loved giving back to the community. This was evidenced by her working with the United Day Nursery of McKinney for over 20 years. She served as an usher in her church and volunteered for a number of years at the McKinney Medical Center. For a period of time, she and her older sister, Helen Crockett delivered Meals on Wheels to the community.
She is survived by her son, Pastor Charles S. Wattley of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Princess Wattley, Quincy Wattley, Carla Wattley Bradley, Marques Woods, Margo Woods, Laquia Wattley, Troy Sherand; sisters, Myrna Allen and Mae Etta Gaston; and numerous other loving family and friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ella Mae Crockett; husband, Willie James Wattley, Sr.; son, Willie James Wattley, Jr.; granddaughter, Bridget Cooksey; sisters, Charlie Mae Crockett, Mollie Sanders, Lucy Helen Crockett; brothers, Cecil Crockett, Walter Crockett, George Crockett, Joe Crockett, and E.J. Crockett.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
