Rev. Mark W. Jones, age 63, of Frisco, Texas passed away on November 4, 2023. He was born on February 10, 1960, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Joyce (Tontz) and Wight Jones. In 1984, Mark married Diane Jennings in North Richland Hills, Texas. Mark was a minister for 38 years, serving as a youth minister for churches in California, North Carolina, Arkansas, South Carolina, Oklahoma and Texas, then as a Senior Pastor for churches in South Carolina and Virginia.
Mark is survived by his wife, Diane Jones of Frisco, Texas, his son Garrett Jones of Addison, Texas, his daughter Sierra Jones Wheatley and her husband Doug of Frisco Texas; his grandchildren Mark “Hudson” Wheatley, Emilia Anne Wheatley of Frisco, Texas; his mother Joyce Tontz Jones of Edmond Oklahoma, and his sister Ann Elizabeth Jones of Tucson, Arizona. Mark is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Wight Williams Jones.
As a husband, father and minister, Mark leaves a strong legacy behind. His love of people and faithfulness to God defined his life’s work as a minister and impacted many congregants and community members across the country. His commitment, love and leadership of his family was deeply felt and lives on in his children and grandchildren. Mark strived to live his life – even through his final days – with purpose, faithfulness and joy according to God’s word, particularly his favorite verse, “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21)
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 12:00 pm at Lakeland Baptist Church, 397 S. Stemmons Fwy., Lewisville, Texas. A funeral service will be held at Lakeland Baptist Church immediately following, at 1:00 pm. Interment at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 7800 Sanctuary Drive, Frisco, Texas.
