IN LOVING MEMORY

Marjorie Ann Stephenson

Jul 06 1941 - Apr 28 2018

Marjorie Ann Stephenson of Richardson, Texas passed away April 28, 2018, at the age of 76.  She was born July 6, 1941, to Walton B. and Roma Gooch in Muskogee, Oklahoma.  Margie married Charles Melvin Stephenson on July 31, 1959, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was passionate in her love of family.  Her children and grandchildren treasured her joyful heart and constant smile.  There was never a bad day in the presence of “GranMom.” Marjorie had many interests and was a friend to all.  Her desire to encourage people was evident in her avid note and card writing.  Marjorie’s love and concern for people was genuine.  She was tireless in helping people, be it preparing food or cleaning homes for people in need, or climbing on a ladder to paint theater sets for the JJ Pearce drama department.  Her servant attitude was recognized in 2014, as Margie was awarded a Lifetime PTA membership at Canyon Creek Elementary School. She enjoyed sporting events as she spent countless hours, rain or shine, rooting on her children and grandchildren.  Marjorie attended many Maverick and Ranger games, and was a constant help to the Dallas Football Officials Association (DFOA).  Her husband, Charles, was associated with football officiating for over 50 years and served as Secretary of the DFOA.  Marjorie’s support for Charles and the numerous officials was seen in her answering the phones, helping to assign officials, dealing with crisis situations due to thunderstorms, and simply making everyone feel welcome.  In 2005, Margie was awarded the Texas Association of Sports Officials Buchanan Service Award, becoming only the third recipient in the history of the award. Above all else, it was never about her.  It was always about others.  And it was always about her deep and abiding love for the Lord.  Her life of selflessness and servanthood was evident to all, and was a source of great encouragement.  While the loss of her presence on earth is a source of sadness, her family is overjoyed in knowing that GranMom is laughing and smiling in the loving arms of her beloved Jesus.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Stephenson of Richardson, Texas; sons, Lewis Stephenson and wife Janice of Mansfield, Texas, Kenneth Stephenson and wife Jana of Lubbock, Texas, Gary Stephenson and wife April of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughters, Rene Lynn of McKinney, Texas, and Kelly Stephenson-Tovar and husband Michael of Richardson, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great –grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, and great-granddaughter, Charlee Rose Stephenson (2016).

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 North Waterview Drive, Richardson, Texas 75080.  A private internment will take place at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church.
