Marilyn Saveraid, 85, passed away on Thursday evening, January 20, 2022 in Allen, Texas. Burial will be at the Palestine Lutheran Church Cemetery, Huxley, Iowa, the graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022, next to her husband, Arthur Saveraid and daughter, Linda Saveraid. A visitation will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall from 1:00p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the graveside service.
Marilyn was born on December 30, 1936 in Story City, Iowa, to Ward Hubbard and Maxine Elaine (Daniels) Shearer. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines, Iowa. Marilyn was an accomplished piano player, skater, and synchronized swimmer through her teen years. She went on to take courses at Des Moines Area Community College and Iowa State Univ.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Arthur Joel Saveraid on February 27, 1955, at Gatchel Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. They settled on a 70- acre farm in Huxley, Iowa, and raised their five daughters there.
Marilyn was a Sunday School teacher, a (Camp Fire) Bluebird leader, a 4-H leader, an Ames (Iowa) Women Aglow officer, and a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She enjoyed working outside in almost any capacity, always willing to help Art with field and farm work, and go with him to farm auctions. She was a talented seamstress, sewing dresses for herself and daughters, and suits for her husband. Later in life, Marilyn and Art took a great interest in genealogy, taking many trips to cemeteries, collecting family stories and pictures, and combing through historical and government records at archive centers. Her favorite things in life were the Lord and her family.
Marilyn is survived by her brother, Wayne (Dorothy) Shearer; daughters, Cindee Delavara, SherRee (Brad) Allen, Kristin (Darrin) Kite, Julie (Ron) Gentry, and Jill (Jeff) Karch; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; parents, Ward and Maxine Shearer; daughter, Linda Jean Saveraid; and granddaughter, Chelsea Maxine Gentry.
