Marilyn "Lynn" Wallace of Plano, Texas passed away July 28, 2022 at the age of 92.
She was born on March 17, 1930 to Frank and Ruth Goss in McPherson, Kansas and was a devoted big sister to Max Goss. Growing up Marilyn loved to spend time with her Dad at the family’s Chrysler-Plymouth dealership, the Goss Motor Company. She learned to drive at the age of 12, sitting on a parts book.
Marilyn graduated from McPherson High School in 1948. She briefly attended Cottey College before transferring to Kansas State University where she earned a degree in Dietetics. While working in one of the kitchens on campus, she smiled at a handsome architecture student who was washing garbage cans there, Duane Wallace. They were married on March 2, 1952 at the First Christian Church in McPherson and were together 64 years before his passing.
Following her graduation from K-State, Marilyn joined Duane in El Paso, Texas and Fairbanks, Alaska (before statehood) while he served in the Army during the Korean War. After the service, they returned to Kansas and started their family in Salina, where two of their daughters were born, Linda and Marsha. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1961. Their third daughter, Laura, was born there. Marilyn and Duane moved to Plano, Texas in 2015.
Marilyn will be missed by many and remembered for her beautiful smile, domestic prowess, love of travel, sharp mind, strong will, and sweet spirit.
She is survived by daughters, Linda Wallace of Las Vegas, Nevada, Marsha Wallace of Roseville, California, and Laura Wallace (and husband, Jeff Barnhill) of McKinney, Texas; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, and sister-in-law. She will be inurned with Duane in McPherson, Kansas.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2022 at the Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. As a small child, Marilyn had cleft surgery at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers, Marilyn requested that gifts be made to Smile Train www.smiletrain.org , the world’s largest cleft charity.
