Marilyn Todd Daniels (nee Myers), EdD, passed peacefully on October 1, 2021, at the age of 85, surrounded by family at her home in Whitewright, Texas. Her life as a professional artist, teacher, writer, mother, and spiritual leader was truly an inspiration to all who knew her. Her 60-year career started in Oklahoma and ended in Texas, spanning three continents of subject matter captured in hundreds of original oils, watercolors, and mixed media.

Marilyn explored different artist personas from western “Texas artist” to classical to modern. Known internationally for her work as an equine artist, she painted horse racing, English riding competitions, equestrian dressage, rodeos, and farm pastures. Marilyn’s adventures chasing horses around the world included capturing working cowboys on the Waggoner Ranch, documenting Princess Anne in English riding championships, and riding along with an international equestrian cross-country adventure team. Her art frequently features Texas landscapes, people, and history, much of it produced after she settled in Whitewright.

A trip to the Holy Land of Israel changed her focus from the natural to the prophetic, and she returned several more times to the Middle East to research and produce a series of nine major biblical works which were displayed in Washington, D.C., The Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas and The Sacred Art Center in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Inspirational prints of the images hang in homes and churches worldwide. Her most popular selling image “I’ll Rise Again” features the Texas equestrian team Glory Riders in a tableau of Jesus’ return in the final battle. Marilyn received her doctorate in Higher Education from Texas Tech and was an educator for over 40 years, most recently teaching at Collin College. Adult learners and local area artists flocked to her Woodsong Studio for intimate art workshops and fellowship.

She enjoyed being an active community member in Whitewright, both in civic and church activities, and particularly enjoyed Christian leadership as a member of the First United Methodist Church and practicing lay speaker. She wrote a local column called “Loaves and Fishes”, published in the Whitewright Sun. Her faith was an important part of her life and work each day, and she loved to connect with people of all faiths.

Marilyn Elizabeth Myers Todd Daniels was born April 26, 1936, in Sayre, Oklahoma to Joseph W. Myers and Zuma Rogers Myers. Marilyn is predeceased by her husband, Phil Daniels. She is survived by children Eric, Michael, and Dana Todd, siblings Nancy Schamadan, Eric Myers, and Debbie Morgan, and 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. To send her to heaven in joy and song, all are welcome to attend the memorial service and celebration of life on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 1 pm, at the First United Methodist Church, 301 W Maple St, Whitewright, TX 75491.
