Marilea Finley Daugherty, 79, of Frisco, Texas, died Wednesday, Nov 9, 2011, surrounded by her daughters at Centennial Medical Center in Frisco, TX. She was born Oct 3, 1932 to Edwin Otis Finley and Lillian McElroy in Pecos, TX. She grew up in Pecos and attended Pecos High School where she fell in love with William King Daugherty. Marilea and Bill's marriage of 59 years began in Pecos on Oct. 18, 1950. Marilea worked in Bill's accounting office in Pecos while raising two children. With her kids almost grown, she decided to return to college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. She graduated with a teaching degree and began her long teaching career at Flagstaff High School. She and Bill moved to Las Cruces, NM where she continued her career by teaching at Mayfield High School. Marilea and Bill moved once again, this time to Alpine, TX where she continued her love of teaching high school at Alpine High School. In addition to her job teaching Home Economics, she was also the sponsor of the Junior Varsity and the Varsity Cheerleading squads. She continued teaching in Alpine until her retirement in 1996. After Alpine, Marilea and Bill's residences included Kerrville, San Angelo, and Frisco, TX. Marilea was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Lillian Finley, her husband William King Daugherty, her son Edwin King Daugherty, and her brother Edwin Curtis Finley. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Dixon of Oak Ridge, TN and Rene Gill of Frisco, TX. Marilea was blessed with three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Phillips Episcopal Church, 6400 Stonebrook Parkway, in Frisco at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 12th, 2011. Interment will take place at Pecos Cemetery at a later date.
