Marie Self, age 99, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024. She was born on June 24, 1925, in Forney, Texas, to Wesley Clyde Harris and Hettie Adeline (Melton) Harris.
On July 9, 1942, Marie married the love of her life, the late William Alton Self. Their marriage was one filled with cherished moments, and they enjoyed many years together before his passing.
Throughout her life, Marie devoted herself to caring for her family, always putting the needs of others above her own. She was of the Church of God faith, where she found strength and fellowship with her church community.
Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Marie is survived by her son, Lynn Self of Waxahachie, Texas; son, Randy Self and wife, Jill of Garland, Texas; Bradley Self of Garland, Texas; daughter, Linda Taylor and husband, Terry of Garland, Texas; daughter, Barbara Beck and husband, Dwayne of Garland, Texas; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Self; daughter, Joan Ross; grandsons, Jeffery Ross and Kenny Self; parents; and all of her siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Wilson Chapel Cemetery in McKinney for a committal service where Marie will be laid to rest with her husband.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
