Margie Lynn Milstead Larsen of Austin (Jonestown), Texas passed away on December 13th, 2019 at the age of 72. She was born on August 30th. 1947 in El Campo, Texas to parents Dee and Vivian Milstead. Margie grew up in Edna, Texas, where she formed an inseparable bond with friends Lee Layden Ulbricht, Punkin Bader Moss, Danny Koop, Carolyn Gwosdz Koop, Carolyn Schiewitz Marshall, Sara Effenberger Doerning, Marie Novosad Morrey and June Wells Pape.
She went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in three years with a degree in elementary education. There she formed a lifelong love affair with the university and the city. Her career took a surprise twist in 1992 when she began working for Barney as an educational consultant, eventually becoming editor in chief of Barney Magazine. Shaping young minds was her life’s work, and like all endeavors in her life she pursued it fiercely and with steely-eyed determination. Her greatest passion in life was her family, whom she loved more than words could possibly describe. Watching Tom, Stephen and Jim grow through the years was her greatest joy, surpassed only by the joy she experienced as she spent time with her precious grandbabies.
She is preceded in death by parents Dee and Vivian Milstead and by beloved friends Lee Layden Ulbricht and Punkin Bader Moss. She is survived by husband Don Larsen, sons Tom, Stephen and Jim, grandchildren Hannah, Mallory, Izzy and Sam, and by sisters Barbara Hawkins and Jan Ward.
