Margareta Merckx, age 95, of The Colony, Texas, passed away on September 13, 2017. She was born March 14, 1922, in Halle, Belgium, to Sophia Moons and Jozef Merckx. She married Jan Vandenbrande in October of 1945 in Belgium. She was a factory worker in the Textile Industry.
She is survived by her son, Jean-Pierre Vandenbrande and his wife, Paulette; grandchildren, Joy Barrows and her husband, Craig; Christopher Vandenbrande and his wife, Dana; Catina Lesavoy and her husband Douglas; great-grandchildren, Andrew Vandenbrande and Rena Vandenbrande. She also leaves behind her beloved family dog, Holly, who will surely miss her as much as her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jan, her son, Louis Vandenbrande, and her parents.
Margareta Merckx, known as “Ma” to many, can best be described as a strong and independent woman who lit up a room with her smile.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Frisco Chapel, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, Texas 75033, on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 2:00 PM.
