Margaret “Peggy” Cockerham was born February 3, 1932, and she passed away February 4, 2022. She was raised in Utica, New York by her parents, Harold and Helen Greer. She worked in a bank and attended college before she married and had children. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Henry Cockerham. They were happily married to the end of her life. She has four children: Sheila Murphy, wife of David Murphy, Terence Cockerham, Peter Cockerham, and Marie Marshall, wife of Steve Marshall. She has six grandchildren: Kathleen Breland, Ian Marshall, Rafe Marshall, Lauren Marshall, David Murphy Jr., and Margaret Murphy. She is survived by her brother, Michael Greer and his wife, Sumiko. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sally Greer, widow of Joseph “Bud” Greer. Her siblings and their spouses who have passed away are Harold Greer and his wife, Elizabeth, Earl Greer and his wife, Helen, Bernadette Dubiel and her husband, Stanley, Helen Whitney and her husband, Chet, Walter “Pete” Greer and most recently his wife, Winona.
She lived in upstate New York, the Republic of Panama, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and finally Texas. She was a lifelong devout Catholic, where she was active in her prayer group. She traveled extensively throughout the continental United States and Hawaii. She also visited England, France, and Israel. Margaret and Henry Cockerham flew to the Philippines to deliver food, medicine, and supplies to disaster survivors after Mount Pinatubo erupted. She loved her grandchildren and proudly told everyone about their accomplishments. She enjoyed shopping. Later in life, she especially enjoyed going to Christian bookstores on Saturdays and other bookstores on Sundays where she could enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. She spent her last two decades in McKinney, Texas where she attended St. Gabriel Catholic Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests masses to be said in her honor at your local parish.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 14, 2022 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 110 St Gabriel Way, McKinney, Texas 75071. The family will receive friends during a rosary service at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral mass at the church.
Family and friends are invited to Turrentine-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. at their convenience on Sunday to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
Interment will be held at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211 at a later date.
