Margaret Ruhnke, born on August 18, 1953 in Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully on January 19th, 2017.
Margaret lived a simple life and loved simple things. She had an appreciation for handwork such as crochet, knitting and cross stitch. She loved shopping for and finding bargains at thrift stores and flea markets. Margaret enjoyed quiet times at home curled up with her kitties and a good book. She also enjoyed family vacations to see the natural wonders of the nation.
Most of Margaret’s adult life was devoted to the compassionate, full-time care of her special needs son, Geoffrey. She will be remembered for the excellent care and gentle love she provided him. Their love for each other was evident in the way Geoff’s eyes lit up whenever he saw her.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 41 years, Chris Ruhnke; her father, Johnny “Pappy” Cornelius; her brother, Dale (Elizabeth); brother-in-law, Jim Ruhnke; sister-in-law, Janice Ruhnke Howard.
Margaret is preceded in death by her mother, Georgette Cornelius.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Frisco on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Father Larry Pichard presiding. Interment will be held at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport, LA 71109 on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 beginning at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Spina Bifida Association or to a charity of your choice in honor of Margaret Ruhnke.
