IN LOVING MEMORY

Marcia Adele Asel

Sep 18 1939 - Aug 28 2024

Marcia Adele (Queen) Asel, a resident of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, at the age of 84. She was born on September 18, 1939, to loving parents Marshall Queen and Elsie Adele (Perry) Queen in San Angelo, Texas. Marcia, a true West Texas girl, grew up in Alpine, Big Spring, and Midland, and graduated from Midland High School in 1957. She attended Texas Tech University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Arts.

Marcia’s early years were marked by diverse accomplishments and leadership roles. As a Girl Scout, she embraced values of service and community involvement. Her work as a Water Safety Instructor and Camp Counselor demonstrated her passion for teaching, mentoring and guiding others, fostering both skills and confidence in her students.

In high school and college, Marcia showcased her flair for performance as a Baton Majorette, adding a touch of elegance and discipline to her school’s spirit. Her success as a Champion diver, swimmer and tennis player illustrated her athletic talent and dedication to her sport. Additionally, being crowned Sigma Nu White Rose Queen highlighted her grace and leadership qualities.

Marcia met the love of her life (and chief agitator), Earl Thomas (Tom) Asel, Jr., while attending Texas Tech. They celebrated their love and commitment to each other on their wedding day, August 25, 1963, in Midland, Texas. Over the years, they created countless joyful memories while raising their three children, Trey, Marcy, and Blake. Marcia served as head cheerleader and super fan for her children’s many sports events, weathering the Texas heat and sometimes frigid temperatures to encourage them and show support. She was a diehard Dallas Cowboys and loyal Mavericks fan.

Marcia loved playing tennis, which showed her friendly competitive spirit. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting, sharing her creativity with those she loved. In her later years, Marcia nurtured her strong curiosity and interest in archaeology by attending multiple Texas Archeological Society Field School digs with her older sister Brownie. She and Brownie enjoyed camping and “digging” in locations such as Perryton, San Saba, Nacogdoches and Paris, TX.

Marcia loved both the water and nature. She enjoyed family adventures camping, fishing, and water and snow skiing. Tom and Marcia purchased an antique wooden boat and found peace and joy spending many weekends on the boat while entertaining family and friends.

Marcia found immense joy in her grandkids. She enjoyed sewing for them and teaching them to sew, sharing her love of all the holidays, making crafts, teaching life skills, taking them on “adventures”, and attending their sports and scholastic activities. She was happiest when surrounded by her grandkids.

Marcia is survived by her three children, son, Earl Thomas “Trey” Asel, III, of Lewisville, Texas, daughter, Marcy Murray, of Dallas, Texas, and son, Blake Russell Asel (wife Angela), of Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren, Ryan Asel, Jack Asel, Josh Asel, Cooper Asel, Ben Asel, Alexandra Asel, and Avery Asel; sister, Brownell “Brownie” Roberts, of San Angelo, Texas; brother, Allen Queen (wife, Patty) of Houston, Texas; several nieces; and a host of other loving family and friends, who will dearly miss her.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents Marshall and Elsie (Perry) Queen; beloved husband, Earl Thomas Asel, Jr.; and sister, Anita Statton.

Marcia will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband at the DFW National Cemetery in a private ceremony. A memorial service for Marcia will be held at 10:00 a.m.,  Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
