IN LOVING MEMORY

Manuel Marvin Redden

Jul 20 1937 - Sep 22 2020

Manuel Marvin Redden was born on July 20, 1937 in Beulah, Texas and passed from this life on September 22, 2020 in Abilene, Texas. He suffered from polio in his youth. He graduated from Scranton, Texas high school in 1955. Manuel trained as an ophthalmic laboratory technician and worked in Lubbock, Phoenix, AZ, Grand Prairie, and El Paso until the late 1980s when he obtained his Commercial Driver’s License and started driving an 18-wheeler, making long haul trips out of El Paso. He retired in July 2002 in El Paso before moving to the Eastland, TX Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2016.

Manuel loved the southwest and particularly El Paso, but he was able to see a large part of the U.S. while driving a truck. He was also an international traveler, going to Heidelberg, Germany in 1989. He became a good auto mechanic by working on his old Pontiac vehicles. He was a true Texan who loved Whataburgers and Dr. Pepper, watching cartoons, and old western movies that starred his heroes, John Wayne and Roy Rogers.

Manuel was a kind and gentle soul who would help out anyone who asked him, whether they were family, friends or strangers. After retirement in El Paso, he volunteered to provide rides for doctor visits and other errands for older people or those without a car. Manuel really was one of those people who would give you the shirt off his back. He will be missed.

Manuel was preceded in death by his father, Iris Gates Redden, mother, Lura Videll Dennington Redden, wife, Jennie Mae Redden, and two sisters, Laura Hachtel and Debra O’Shields. He is survived by his four children, Diana Maley, Terri Williams, Vicki Riley, and Steven Redden; his three step-children, Fran Prather, Dinah Ibarra, and Susan Smith; siblings: Shiela Hallmark, Tim Redden, Betty George, Joyce Whitt, Jim Redden, Lena Redden, and Sherry Blue; and many grandchildren, and other family and friends.

Graveside Service will be held at Valley Creek Cemetery, Leonard, Texas at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 25, 2020
