IN LOVING MEMORY

Mae Evelyn "Gidget" Covington

Aug 17 1949 - Mar 24 2018

Mae Evelyn “Gidget” Covington, 68, went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. She was born August 17, 1949, in Tenaha, Texas to James Elvis Gibbs and Mildred Frances (Johnson) Gibbs.  Growing up in East Dallas she enjoyed adventure. Gidget married Randy Covington on December 16, 1983, in Dallas, Texas. For more than 20 years, they owned and managed a business together where she was able to utilize her talent as a porcelain artist. They actively served in a variety of ministries for their church. However, their greatest enjoyment was their shared love of the Lord and just simply being together. Always inspired by the next challenge in life, Gidget not only worked to accomplish a goal, she worked to conquer it.  As Gidget moved through her journey, her love for God increased by day, AND she was never shy to joyfully share this love with all who would listen. Like her faith, if asked "what do you think?” she was always willing to share her opinion. However, when asked "what should I do?” the answer was always the same... "Pray, give it to the Lord and leave it; then trust Him".

Gidget loved fast cars, riding motorcycles, water skiing, and dancing.  She had a love for music, particularly Elvis music.  Gidget was not only a listener; she occasionally enjoyed taking the microphone as well.

As a mother, Gidget not only instilled her Christian values, she also passed along to her daughter Janie her sense of adventure and lack of fear.  Gidget was a beloved daughter that strived to create those special moments that can only be shared between a mother and child. She was an endeared sister, never afraid to take up the lead in the family. As "Aunt Gidget" to her many nieces and nephews, fact she was like a second mom to most.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Jane "Janie" Stubblefield of Dallas, Texas; mother, Frances Gibbs; sisters, Elaine Childress and Carolyn Sanders; brothers, Ronnie Gibbs and James Gibbs; and many nieces and nephews.

Gidget was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Covington, father, Elvis Gibbs, and baby brother, Lonnie Dale Gibbs.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00, Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment is to immediately follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
