Mabel Marie Lord, age 90, of Copeville, Texas passed away March 22, 2011. She was born on May 11, 1920, in Brazil, Indiana to George Henry and Ora Bell (Haynes) Petty. On September 26, 1937, Mabel married her husband, Gilbert Thomas in Newport, Indiana. He passed away January 1, 1945 in Luxemburg, Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. Mabel was the owner of Dudes Drive-In in Plano, Texas for many years; she worked alongside many of her family members. Mabel was a member of Jupiter Road Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. She is survived by her children, Gilbert Thomas of Copeville, Texas, Charlie Thomas of McKinney, Texas, and Janice Perez and her husband Joe of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Susan, Michael, Diana, Mark, Donald, Karen, Douglas, Carrie, Charlie, and Lynda Carol; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Lientz and Margie Lapworth, both of Clinton, Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Opal Gwyn; brother, Ralph Petty; and daughter, Mary Ann Thomas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation, Friday evening, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
