Lynda Lou was 82 when she passed peacefully at home in Celeste on August 31, 2021 on Tuesday morning. She was the daughter of Dan and Stella Lee Barnard and the sister to Norris Barnard. She was born in Greenville, she lived in Bonham and Celeste. She partook in band at Bonham High School where she played the clarinet. And later on she played the piano for fun and for church on Sundays.
She met her husband, Frankie Gene Thorp, at East Texas State College, where she got her bachelors degree of science. She married him in 1960 and had 4 beautiful children they raised them on a prison farm in Rosharon.
She always worked in education, whether it was a mother’s day out or the elementary school or Sunday School, she was always teaching.
Lynda Lou loved to sew, she was always measuring the kids and grandkids for clothes she made. For the later grandkids she did cross stitch birth announcements. She always had a needle and thread in hand. She also loved her puzzles, reading, coloring, and anything to do with crafting. She enjoyed crafting a new Christmas ornament each year for family and friends. She collected hummingbirds, Texas related items, blown glass, bluebonnets, and pictures of family.
She was not a partaker of sports but she loved to watch. She started out watching Frankie play softball, her kids in band and on the ball field and watching her grandkids play many sports and gymnastics. And she loved watching her Dallas Cowboys. She supported her kids while in FFA and 4H and then her grandkids in FFA.
She was a member of the Angelton Busy Bee’s crafting club, she was Girl Scout leader and a Boy Scout Mom. She was the treasurer for the Thursday Club of Celeste, a member of the Celeste Coffee Club, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a part of Bonham, Angleton, and Celeste UMC.
She is survived by her daughters Belinda Jean Thorp and Donna Childres of Celeste, TX and Sharon Lee Wells of Tomball, TX; sons Roger Glyn Thorp of Huntsville, TX and Cody Norris Thorp and Rachel Thorp of Willis, TX. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren; Jennifer Lee Wells, Matthew Clayton Wells, KaLee Ann Thorp, Kadi Louise Thorp, Keegan Allan Thorp, Kirby Lyn Thorp, and Kindsi Lee Thorp. She is survived by her sister-in-law Linda Lee Bowling of Plano, TX. Along with numerous nieces and nephews. Also smudge the kitty.
Her visitation is Friday, September 3, 2021 from 5-7pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral home in Leonard Texas. The service is on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 10:00 am at Celeste First United Methodist Church with a visitation from 9-10. She will be buried in Hogeye Cemetery in Celeste following the service. The officiants will be William Eason of Fellowship UMC in Dallas and Ash Harmon of Celeste UMC. Lynda’s pallbearers are Roger Thorp, Cody Thorp, Jennifer Wells, Matthew Wells, Mike Bowling, and Steve Bowling
