Lyle John Powell of Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Cedar Springs, Michigan, passed away on October 25, 2017, at the age of 72. He was born on November 22, 1944, to Wendell and Alma (Nicholi) Powell in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Lyle grew up in Rockford, Michigan, with his nine brothers and sisters. He was a hardworking man with a passion for farming and family. Lyle’s favorite place to be was watching his grandchildren in their many activities, but most of all at the ballfield. He was a retiree of the Sparta Foundry and had many fond memories of the friends he met there. Lyle also made fast friends everywhere he went.
He is survived by his daughters, Amy Jo Slabaugh of Midland, Michigan, and Anne Marie Dropp and husband, Brad, of Woodstock, Georgia; grandchildren, Chloe Slabaugh, Brett Slabaugh, Cooper Powell, Cameron Powell, Garrett Dropp and Riley Dropp; sisters, Helen Cook and husband, Dave, Jane Lamley, Sandy Rollenhagen and husband,Randy; brothers, Leon Powell and wife, Marilyn, and Leslie Powell and wife, Cathy; soulmate, Delores Powell; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Powell and Edward Powell; his sisters, Joyce Spriggel and Beth Ribbens; and his son, Ross John Powell.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. The family will receive visitors during a visitation on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service will also be held at a later date in Michigan.
