Lydia “Doris” Duncan of McKinney, Texas, passed away on June 29, 2025, at the remarkable age of 102.
Doris was born on January 18, 1923, in Carthage, Mississippi, to L.H. Wilbanks and Claydie (Chamblee) Wilbanks. She graduated from Brownstown High School in Brownstown, Illinois, and went on to earn her associate’s degree.
On January 3, 1939, Doris married the love of her life, Charles Duncan, in Oklahoma. Together, they shared 75 wonderful years of marriage until Charles's passing in 2014. A devoted wife, Doris dedicated her life to caring for her family, creating a home filled with love. She loved to cook and took great pride in preparing delicious dishes for those she loved. Baking was a joy all its own—her pies, cakes, and cookies were treasured by family and friends alike.
Doris also had a gift for music. She played both the piano and organ with grace and joy, sharing her talents faithfully as a longtime and devoted member of First United Methodist Church. Over the years, she served the church in many capacities—playing music, teaching Bible School, and offering her time and heart wherever it was needed.
Above all, Doris will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the kindness she shared with others will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and the many lives she touched throughout her 102 beautiful years.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Marsha Duncan of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; son, Mike Duncan and wife, Ann of Wilbraham, Massachusetts; daughter, Lisa Gunstenson and husband, Mark of Melissa, Texas; grandchildren, Kelly Griffith and husband, Josh of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, Kevin Duncan and wife, Carla of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Colleen Duncan, also of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, Casie Schneider and husband, Travis of Melissa, Texas and Cody Gunstenson and wife, Gabbie of Melissa, Texas; great-grandchildren, Emma, Sean, Kayden, Logan, Austin, Hadley Jo and Hudson; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and parents.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church McKinney Chapel located at 315 North Church Street, McKinney, Texas 75069.
Following the service, Doris will be laid to rest with her husband at Pecan Grove Cemetery, 1701 South McDonald, McKinney, Texas, 75069.
