IN LOVING MEMORY

Luis Alfredo Hernandez

Jun 19 1947 - Jan 15 2020

Luis Alfredo Hernandez, “Papo” to family and “Louie” to friends, was born to Alfredo and Maria Hernandez on June 19, 1947 in Puerto Rico. He went to be with his heavenly Father on January 15, 2020 in Frisco, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters and he is survived by his two brothers.

Luis married his sweetheart, Nilsa, in 1970, and they were blessed with 49 years together. He was devoted to her and loved her dearly. They had 2 children of whom he was so proud, Sandra “Lori” Lorraine, and Luis “Ralphy” Rafael. Sandra is married to Jose Lozano, and they blessed Luis and Nilsa with two grandchildren whom Luis doted on and loved very much, Joseph and Gabriella.  Throughout his life, Luis always had a heart dedicated to God. He was kind and quick to forgive, humble and generous. Over the years he helped many family members and friends and touched their lives for the better. He served the Lord faithfully from childhood and desired to see his whole family enter into the family of God. Over the years he enjoyed supporting his churches, mission work, and charitable organizations. The example he set through his Christian walk was a testimony to all.  During the Vietnam war Luis enlisted and spent time in the United States Army as an infantry paratrooper proudly serving his country in the 101st Airborne Division, the “Screaming Eagles” – it was during this time that Psalm 91 had a special impact on his life. While serving, he received a Bronze Star Medal w/V & Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Service Stars. After the army, Luis had a successful career at United Parcel Service, and then he began a second successful career as a small business owner of McDonald’s restaurants where he fulfilled the dream of working for himself. As a McDonald’s franchisee he earned the Golden Arch Award given for excellence. He also worked with the MHOA, as chairman and advocate, and received the Ronald award for his work with them.  Work was truly his lifelong passion.  Over the years Luis enjoyed BBQ cookouts with family, trips to Puerto Rico, time at the lake and a good Sunday nap. He enjoyed cheering on the home team whether the Rangers or Mavs, and attending his grandkids’ plays, recitals and games. Most of all Luis enjoyed being a loving husband to his wife and a wonderful father and grandfather.  Luis will be greatly missed and affectionately remembered by all of his family and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2020 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park, 12130 Peaceful Lane, Frisco, Texas 75034.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
