Louis Cameron Miller was born on April 6, 1922 in McKinney, Texas and graduated to Heaven to be with Jesus on December 10, 2016, peacefully after a long and full life. His father was Henry C. Miller, a native of Farmersville, Texas. His mother was Grace Cameron Miller who was born and raised on a farm of 1000 acres in northwest McKinney. He had one sister, Mary Betty McKinney.
Louis grew up at 416 W. Virginia Street in McKinney, and received his primary education in McKinney public schools, including J.H. Hill School, L.A. Scott Junior High School, and Boyd High School, where he graduated in 1940. After graduation, he attended the University of Texas at Austin for two years before volunteering for the Navy in October of 1942, where he served in the Pacific Theater of World War II with the Navy Weather Department on Adak Island of the Alaskan Aleutian Chain. Louis was honorably discharged in January of 1946, after achieving the rank of Aerographers Mate II. After the war, he returned to the University of Texas, receiving his B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering in September of 1948.
On September 2, 1947, Louis married his loving wife of 69 years, Syble Covington of Dallas, Texas. They moved to McKinney after Louis’ graduation in 1948, where their two children, Louis Covington (Covey) Miller and Mariette Williams, were born and raised. He considered his two children, Covey and Mariette, to be his greatest achievements. His family will always remember his unflinching loyalty and commitment to them, and to his community.
Louis began his career as a civil engineer for the Texas Highway Department, and then worked as a freelance land surveyor before joining his father at McKinney Abstract & Title Company, where he devoted himself for the next 57 years. In 1971, his son, Covey Miller, joined him in the business.
In addition to his career, Louis also served the City of McKinney as City Councilman for 5 years, and was elected Mayor of McKinney in 1961, where he served a term of two years. After his tenure in elected office, he was appointed to the Board of Adjustment where he served as a member and chairman for approximately 15 years.
He trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Always committed to his faith, he served as a founding Elder at McKinney Bible Church, and is currently a member of Christ Fellowship Church, where he was a charter member and served as an Elder.
Louis is survived by his wife, Syble Miller; son, Covey Miller and wife Salli; and daughter, Mariette Williams; grandchildren, Myka Miller, Mekala Miller, Russell Williams, Clark Williams and wife, Lindsay, Luke Miller, Brad Williams and wife, Leah Williams; and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Turrentine-Jackson Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Tuesday to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
