IN LOVING MEMORY

Lona Jean Smith Freet

May 28 1965 - Oct 19 2022

Lona Jean Smith Freet, born on May 28, 1965, passed away October 19, 2022, in Farmersville, Texas at the age of 57. She was the daughter of Lon Little and Beverly Jean (Golightly) Smith, Jr. who both predeceased her.

Lona grew up in Richardson and graduated from The Hockaday School in 1983. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Texas.  Education and helping others was a passion for Lona, so after college she continued her education by becoming a Board-Certified Naturopathic Doctor.  She later opened her own business, Texas Biological Medicine, where she was fondly called by patients, staff and co-workers as “Dr Lona.”

When Lona was not taking care of patients, you could find her on her ranch surrounded by her beloved horses, dogs and all types of animals.  She loved being outdoors and spent many hours hiking, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived her beloved sister, Nanci Leigh Smith McCook of Frisco, Texas; nephews, Kyle McCook of San Clemente, California and Garrett McCook of Plano, Texas; brother, Christopher Cofone of Maryland; sister, Jennifer Ross and husband, Bryan also of Maryland, and by her spouse, Charles Arthur Freet, Jr. of Farmersville, Texas; along with a host of other loving family and friends.

Lona was preceded in death by her niece, Katherine Leigh McCook.

An informal afternoon/sunset remembrance of Lona will be held Wednesday, October 26th at WindyHill Equine Rescue and Rehoming.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Lona’s name to either of the following charities to carry on her legacy and passion.
