IN LOVING MEMORY

Lon L. Brown

Jun 02 1918 - Jun 20 2018

Lon L. Brown of McKinney, Texas passed away on June 20, 2018 at the age of 100.  He was born on June 2, 1918 to Ben Harlan “Tink” and Katherine (Atchley) Brown in Tennessee.  His mother died when he was just a baby so his father moved him and his sister to Texas where he would later remarry Lula Harp.  She cared for Lon as if he were her own.  Lon’s father was a farmer so he would help on the farm, even as a young boy.  This is where he developed a hard work ethic.  He bought his first car at age 12, a Model T Ford Sedan. A true Cowboy, he worked on a ranch near Canadian, Texas at 19.  Lon joined the Army in December 1941 and served in Hawaii and the Marshall Islands until 1945.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Lon married Anne “Anna Mae” Pope from Van Alstyne on May 12, 1945.   They met two months before they married, and were married for 66 years. Lon served in a mounted Deputy Posse in Dallas during the 1950's. He loved his horses and mules and enjoyed riding in numerous Trail Rides.  Lon rode in the Sesquicentennial Trail Drive in 1986 and rode from San Antonio to San Angelo.  He would often drive his covered wagons in parades around the area. Lon loved to cook; chili and barbecue sauce were his specialties. He attended King’s Trail Cowboy Church in Whitewright, Texas.

Lon is survived by his sister, Bobbie Lynn Alberding of Sherman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Brown; sisters, Estelle Howard, Kay Allison and Thomey Gray; brothers, Billy Brown, Thurman Brown, and Arthur Brown.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.  Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to King’s Trail Cowboy Church, 498 Bethel Cannon Road, Whitewright, Texas 75491.
