Lometa Young Harris

Lometa Young Harris of McKinney, Texas passed away on December 1, 2021 at the age of 86. She was born on April 19, 1935 to Hobart Houston Young and Edna Leola (Jones) Young in Brazos, Texas. Lometa was a 1953 graduate of Santo High School in Santo, Texas.  On April 24, 1953, Lometa married her high school sweetheart, Von Weldon Harris in the living room of her parents’ house in Brazos, Texas. They immediately left for Endicott, New York where Weldon had a job working pipeline construction with Williams Brothers Construction.  Lometa was a banker’s wife for many years.  She and husband, Weldon helped plant a church in Fritch, Texas.  She enjoyed playing piano, painting, and gardening.  Lometa was a member and founding elder at Resurrection Life Church in McKinney, Texas.  She was a happy homemaker and much-loved wife, mother, and grandmother.

Lometa is survived by her sons, Weldon “Rick” Harris and wife, Sharon of Allen, Texas and Randall Harris of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Rhonda Smith of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Travis Smith and wife, Yumi, Aaron Smith, Jennifer Sharp and husband, Jeremy, Amy Harris, and Christopher Harris and wife, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Stella and Ezra Sharp and Ethan Harris; numerous other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Von Weldon Harris; parents, Hobart and Edna Young; and her sister, Jeanine Ball.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, December 13, 2021 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening, December 12, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Dobbs Valley Cemetery in Mineral Wells, Texas.
