In Loving Memory of Lois Witte Hoyle
Lois Witte Hoyle, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, was born in Bellville, Texas, on March 1, 1940. She grew up in a small Texas town, where she enjoyed the simple pleasures of youth—sock hops, Friday night football games, and Methodist Youth Fellowship. Lois was an accomplished athlete and especially enjoyed basketball. During her sophomore year, her team advanced all the way to the state finals, an experience she remembered with great pride.
Education was an important part of Lois’s life. She attended Lamar University alongside her brother, Charlie, earning her undergraduate degree. She later went on to receive her master’s degree from East Texas State University. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling career as a teacher, where she dedicated 30 years to educating and making a difference in the lives of her students.
Lois married David Hoyle, and together they raised their three children, Shannon, Phillip, and Sean. Although their marriage later ended in divorce in 1991, Lois’s greatest joy and source of pride remained her family.
She was a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren, Julia, Joseph, Jason, and Chase. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with them and especially enjoyed babysitting, playing games, and watching them grow. She also welcomed her children’s spouses into the family with love, including Phillip’s wife, Stefanie, and Sean’s wife, Dani.
Lois lived in Garland for nearly 45 years, where her children attended Garland ISD schools. She became an active part of the community and was a member of First Baptist Church of Garland. Later in life, she moved to McKinney to be closer to her family, where she continued her involvement with First Baptist Church of McKinney.
Outside of teaching and raising her family, Lois had many interests that brought her happiness. She loved playing games, traveling, gardening, visiting with friends, volunteering, and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a genuine appreciation for people and enjoyed the conversations, laughter, and friendships that filled her life.
Lois will be remembered for her love of family, her dedication to education, her generous spirit, and the many lives she touched throughout her 86 years. She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, former students, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her children, Shannon Metcalf, Phillip Hoyle, and Sean Hoyle; her daughters-in-law, Stefanie Hoyle and Dani Hoyle; her grandchildren, Julia Hoyle, Joseph Hoyle, Jason Hoyle, and Chase Hoyle; her brother, Charlie; and numerous extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that the lessons she taught, the kindness she shared, and the love she gave will remain with them always.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 11, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, 75013. A graveside service will take place on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Kollatschny Cemetery (Cat Spring Cemetery) in Bellville, Texas.
