Lindy Coker

Sep 18 1923 - Apr 11 2015

Lindy Coker passed away April 11, 2015  She was born September 18, 1923 in Wellington, Texas, the youngest of five children born to Dr. Travis and Florence (Binion) Cato.  The family moved to Farmersville , Texas in 1925, where Lindy graduated Salutatorian of the Class of 1941.  While living with her Aunt Fay St. John and Cousin Billie in San Antonio during WWII, she worked in the Personnel Office at Kelly Field.  She moved to Dallas after the War and worked for the Trinity Universal Insurance company on Ross Avenue (today's Atrium location) where she met and married Vernon Coker, who passed away in 1996.  Lindy and Vernon made their homes at 6610 Aintree Circle in Dallas, then 1680 F.M. 272 east of Leonard, Texas.  Lindy was a fifth generation Texan on both family sides, and a descendant of several pioneer Collin and Grayson County families, mostly in and around the Pilot Grove area.  She was the first lady elected to serve on a school board in Fannin County, and volunteered many years on the Child Welfare Board (CASA) of Hunt County.  Her "crowning achievement" was the placement of the three Doyle brothers with Danny and Delores of Leonard, something she recalled until her last days.

Survived by sons Steve and wife Leslie of Van Alstyne, Stan and wife Alice of Dallas, and daughter Sandra and husband Michael Gunlock of Cincinnati: grandchildren Travis, Ashley, Patricia, Allison, and Abigail.
