IN LOVING MEMORY

Linda Newhart Martin

Feb 17 1943 - Nov 04 2019

Linda Newhart Martin of McKinney, Texas passed away on November 4, 2019.  She was born on February 17, 1943 to John and Verda Newhart in Powhatan Point, a coal-mining region of Eastern Ohio.  She graduated as Valedictorian from Powhatan Point High School in 1961. Upon graduation, Linda moved to Washington, D.C. where she was a legal secretary for the US Information Agency, State Department. Several years later, during a girl’s night at the bowling alley, she met her future husband, William, who was in the US Air Force stationed in Arlington, Virginia. They married October 29, 1966, and immediately moved to Dallas, Texas where Linda became a true “Texan”. Upon moving to Dallas, Linda went to work for the Internal Revenue Service. In the years that followed, they had two children, Craig and Anissa, and she became a full-time homemaker.  They settled in Grapevine, Texas where they raised their family.

Linda never met a stranger, loved to chat, and was generous with her time, which was evident in her relationships with neighbors and friends. She enjoyed being a “helper” and was always the first to volunteer in her children’s activities…Den Mother, Homeroom Mom, Booster Clubs, etc. She had a strong work-ethic, taking pride in everything she did, but especially loved tending to her yard and home. But her most treasured moments were spent with her family and beloved dogs.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, William Martin of McKinney, Texas; son, Craig Martin, and wife, Laura of Memphis, Tennessee, daughter, Anissa Reil and husband, Eric also of McKinney, Texas; granddaughters, Landry, Leighton and Lily Reil.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Joyce Pauley.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 8, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.  The family will receive friends at their home following the service.
