Linda Hall Long died on August 3, 2017, of brain cancer. As a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, she was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine interest in the lives of those she touched.
Linda was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 6, 1951. She grew up in Fort Worth and was a member of the Class of 1969 at Eastern Hills High School. She met her husband Olen her senior year of high school, when they were introduced by her mother. They married December 5, 1970. They both attended and graduated from Texas A&M University, where Linda studied English and History.
Olen and Linda moved to Celina in 1976, and Linda soon began a 32-year teaching career with Celina ISD. She was devoted to her students’ personal and educational success and supported them both in and out of the classroom. In addition to teaching English at the junior high and high school levels, she served in various other capacities, including sponsoring the cheerleaders and drill teams at Celina Junior High and teaching high school Government and Economics classes. Linda took particular pleasure in her position as Yearbook Sponsor, as it allowed her to work closely with the students to produce a meaningful representation of their high school years. In 2011, Linda became the high school Librarian, and she cherished the opportunity to enable the teachers and students to secure the resources they needed for success in the classroom. She remained in this position until her retirement in 2016, and she is remembered for the nurturing climate she created through her unwavering personal and professional support for all who entered the library.
Linda is survived by Olen, her husband of 46 years, parents, Richard Eugene Hall and Jo Hansen, and sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan and Caroline, Derek and Carlen, and Jason and Haley. She is also survived by her sisters, Kathy Scarano and Karen Mullen, and her brothers Rick Hall and Keith Hall. Linda was a doting grandmother to Andrew, Hannah, Ava, and Scarlett Long.
