IN LOVING MEMORY

Linda Denise Collins

Nov 04 1950 - Jun 19 2008

Ms. Linda Denise Collins, born November 4, 1950, entered into everlasting peace and rest June 19, 2008 after a 57-year continuous celebration of life. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana to parents Leonard Collins Sr. and Ollie (Rayson) Collins, Linda’s unassailable spark of life was evident from the beginning. Her life story continued with education at Central Free Methodist School, Notre Dame High School, and Saint Vincent’s Academy. After completing her university studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Linda maintained her sparkling life’s voyage as marvelous mother, doting daughter, generous friend, and accomplished businesswoman in such varied places as Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, and finally McKinney, Texas. Her 35-year professional career in social work and human resources was notable for wide-ranging expertise, balanced leadership, and unswerving integrity. Most professionally meaningful to Linda was her sustained involvement with Job Corps, the long-running federally funded social service program for young people. Wise and caring beyond her years, Linda personally guided many through countless struggles in their life paths and chosen careers. The light she brought will shine through all who knew her. And even though her physical body was unable to recover from a sudden severe illness, her irrepressible energy, will, and spirit will inspire and comfort everyone enveloped by her vibrant presence. She is survived by her adoring sons Agyei (Barbara) Gyasi of Murphy, Texas and Ayinde Oya Tyehimba of McKinney, Texas; cherished mother Ollie Collins of Shreveport, Louisiana; lively grandchildren Noah, Luke, Maja, and Aleksandra; treasured uncle Frank R. Rayson and aunt Ruby R. Rayson; beloved Bichon Tibbie; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her much-loved father Leonard Collins Sr., brother Leonard Collins Jr., and nephew Leonard Collins III. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 4:00 PM in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel (Allen, Texas) with Pastor John Wilson III of the Sanctuary of Praise Inter-Denominational Church (Plano, Texas) officiating. Repast will follow (location pending). Arrangements are under the direction of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Directors (for general information, please call 972-562-2601).
