Lillian Edith Simmons-Carey, age 94, of Plano, Texas, passed away April 24, 2009, in Richardson, Texas. Lillian was born March 20, 1915, in Newark, New Jersey, to Edward and Nettie (Dean) Simmons. She married Robert Carey, Sr. in 1940 in New York. Lillian grew up in New York City and attended PS 136. She was also a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Plano, TX. Hobbies of Lillian’s throughout the years were reading and especially crocheting for family and friends. Up to two years ago she was still taking request for throw blankets and bed spreads. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her Daily Devotion books. She is survived by her son, Robert Carey of Wyandanch, Long Island, New York and daughter, Patricia Grant of Plano, Texas; granddaughters, Kim Russell, Gina Carey, and Daenna Grant; four great-grandchildren Hakeem, Michael, Shakeitha and Melijah; great-great-grandson Jaheem; and a host of friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, May 2, 2009, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Pastor Todd Burning, Dr. Conway Edwards, and Pastor Kevin Cook officiating. Services are under the direction of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
